Many of us, anyway, have at some time or another become aware of facebook scam" sites which promise to reveal the "secret facebook password" of any person who connects with them. They generate a form which the user completes and then feeds it to the site, which then displays the password to the user. Of course, in many cases it would be too easy to figure out the password, if only they used their brain. Instead, they have little parts of their brain eat away at this password and the end result is a faux piece of mind.

The sites above all work by taking advantage of the SOPA Act. The SOPA Act was added to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) at the last minute after numerous sites were selling the details of expected users and in fact partaking in the original survey. The SOPA and PIPA Act (Patriot Act: Protection and Improvement of Internet), was otherwise known as the "anti-piracy act". Many sites thought that this was a bad idea, when it became clear that it would mean we would have to continually type in our passwords when accessing the web. The SOPA Act gave more power to the FBI and the Department of Justice towards enforcing actions and laws on websites which they suspected of being linked to a violation of copyright infringement.

When hackers send out these fake message, they expect "people" to, in this case, respond by attaching the password file from their browser. The intention was that upon receipt, the hackers would then post the password for the hacker's benefit, claiming it is the user's password.
