The music video for 'Hot Dog', the album's first single, is a parody of the music video for the Stone Temple Pilots' 'Interstate Love Song'. It combines the two to create a mockumentary that features Durst's three-year-old son, Langdon, playing the role of a terrified baby and a cast of characters played by various Limp Bizkit members. In the video, the baby Langdon is frightened by the idea of Durst turning his city into a starfish. In the end, the characters of the video find a way to get rid of the starfish. The video was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for the category of Best Music Video. The video features a cameo by Limp Bizkit guitarist Sam Rivers.
The cover artwork of the US edition of the album was changed to a simpler image with a two-dimensional image of a starfish on a black background on the cover, and on the gatefold cover of the bonus DVD. The Australian edition of the album had a unaltered version of the cover from the US edition.
In the streets of Los Angeles is where I want to turn it, cause I wanna turn it into a starfish. I wanna turn it into a starfish, a starfish, a starfish, a starfish... A starfish.. A starfish.. a starfish.. A starfish.. A starfish, a starfish, a starfish, a starfish... A starfish....
The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 107,000 copies and in the following week dropped to number 13. It achieved significant success in Australia, where it topped the ARIA Albums Chart for three consecutive weeks.
The album was a commercial success for Stone Temple Pilots. The album was the group's biggest selling effort at the time, and was certified Gold in the US in November 2003. It was also certified Gold in Canada in 2003. A deluxe edition was released in 2004, featuring 10 new studio recordings and live tracks.
Vocals are provided by Scott Weiland (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver) and is the first major-label vocal performance by Weiland. Scott Weiland discusses the success of the album in an interview with WDF News .
The album has been released on two separate tours in the United States. The first tour, in 2004, was headlined by Stone Temple Pilots and the second tour, in 2007, was headlined by Weiland. Both tours were very successful and received praise from critics and fans alike. The tour was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop/Rock Album, and the tour was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards in 2008, the first time a live act has ever won the award.
