The largest increases in reported romantic status have occurred among 16 to 17 year olds. Having a significant other is a large source of social support for teens across the board. However, the increase in romantic status is much higher for nonwhite teens. In fact, among 16 to 17 year olds, more than one in five (22%) Latinos report having a romantic partner, compared to one in four (23%) nonwhite teens. One in three (34%) non-Hispanic black teens have a romantic partner, compared to one in five (20%) non-Hispanic white teens.

I definitely want to stay involved with writing YA literature and get the message across to people that it's okay to make mistakes. I want to do something with families, just to be a part of them and let them know that it's okay to not be perfect and to be real!

Boys and girls, as well as teens across income groups, generally feel similar levels of pressure in each of these realms, but there are some exceptions. Girls are more likely than boys to say they feel a lot of pressure to look good (35% vs. 23%). And teens in the lower- and middle-income groups are more likely than those in higher-income households to say they feel at least some pressure to help their family financially (42% and 38%, respectively, vs. 28%).

Girls are as likely as boys to say they worry about being too fat or too thin (19% and 21%, respectively). Boys are somewhat more likely than girls to say they worry about being too smart (23% vs. 15%).

Teens are more likely than adults to say they are always thinking about their future (29% vs. 15%) and finances (23% vs. 11%). And that financial pressure is linked to academic pressure. Teens who say they feel at least some pressure to help their family financially are three times more likely to say they feel at least some pressure to succeed academically.
