Though they started the season by winning 11 of their first 17 games, the Mariners hit the skids with that aforementioned 1-10 stretch, which included two series losses to the Rays plus one apiece to the Marlins and Astros. Rodríguez, Winker, Frazier, and Jarred Kelenic all struggled in April, though they were offset by big performances from J.P. Crawford, Ty France, and Suárez. By May, the bigger problem was the pitching, with Ray looking quite ordinary, carrying a 4.75 ERA and 4.15 FIP through the end of the month, and Chris Flexen and Marco Gonzales combining for -0.3 WAR in 19 starts. As of May 31, the team was 21-28, and while they began June with road series victories over the Orioles, Rangers, and Astros, they returned to T-Mobile Park and dropped series to the Red Sox, Twins, and Angels, the last of those four out of five. Over that 11-game stretch, they were shut out four times, held to one or two runs another three times, and scored more than three runs just three times.

Each offseason, MiLB.com goes position by position across each organization and honors the players -- regardless of age or prospect status -- who had the best seasons in each farm system. Next up in our 2022 Organization All-Stars series are the Kansas City Royals.
The team's No. 8 prospect led Kansas City full-season qualifiers with a .326 batting average, .542 slugging percentage, .965 OPS and 152 wRC+ over 483 plate appearances at High-A and Double-A. Most of those came at Northwest Arkansas, where he batted .321 in 73 games and managed to post a career-low 19.9 percent strikeout rate.
Like Hicklen, Blanco did all of his production with Omaha and earned five games with the big club in May. At 29 years and 24 days old, Blanco was the seventh-oldest position player to make his Major League debut in 2022.
The 2021 seventh-rounder had already undergone Tommy John surgery before the Draft, and he experienced a shoulder injury that kept him out for five-plus weeks in the middle of the season. But when he was on the mound in 2022, he was as dominant as they come in the Kansas City system.
The 25-year-old right-hander bounced between Omaha and Northwest Arkansas for much of the first half, but after settling in at Triple-A by late July, he put up the best numbers of any reliever in the system. He was the only Royals Minor Leaguer with an ERA below 3.00 over at least 60 innings, and his ERA was 1.43. His 0.96 WHIP and .175 average-against were also tops among the same KC hurlers meeting that frame minimum.
Today, the Red Sox and Astros will begin the American League Division Series presented by Doosan in Houston, and if that sounds familiar, it should -- just last weekend, these clubs finished the regular season with four games against one another in Boston. While Houston finished with the AL's No. 2 seed thanks to Cleveland's unbelievable finish, in many ways, this may still be the most dangerous offense remaining. The Astros did, after all, finish first in runs scored, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as finishing second only to the Yankees in homers.:: ALDS schedule and coverage ::And they did all of this while striking out less than any team in baseball. These Astros can mash. That's not to undersell the Red Sox, of course, who have one of the most dominant relievers who ever lived fronting a strong bullpen and two of baseball's most elite outfield defenders chasing down fly balls. But which team really has the advantage Let's break it down position by position. (Batting numbers are presented with traditional BA/OBP/SLG and Weighted Runs Created Plus, or wRC+, a park- and league-adjusted number where 100 is set as \"league average\" for easy comparison.) CatcherSandy Leon and Christian Vazquez combined to catch all but 12 innings behind the plate for Boston, and they added considerable value behind it, as their +19 framing runs were best in the American League and third overall. But as a group, Red Sox catchers hit a mere .260/.313/.380 (81 wRC+), 19th-best, while Astros catchers Brian McCann and Evan Gattis combined to hit .251/.318/.445 (104 wRC+), which is a considerable power advantage. It's close, but Houston's pair of better bats gives the Astros the edge here.Advantage: Astros
Starting PitchersOne side has Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel. The other side has Sale, who's either going to win the AL Cy Young Award or finish a close second to Corey Kluber. The Astros had a 4.03 rotation ERA this year, while the Red Sox had a 4.06 mark. Looking at the four likely starters for each side, Verlander, Keuchel, Brad Peacock and Charlie Morton had a 3.41 FIP for Houston, while the four potential starters for Boston -- Sale, Pomeranz, Rick Porcello, and Doug Fister had a very similar 3.65 FIP, and that's the point. These are two talented and strong rotations.Advantage: Tie Relief PitchersCraig Kimbrel (1.43 ERA, 126 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 69 innings) is merely wrapping up one of the greatest relief seasons of all time, but this isn't just about him. The 2017 Red Sox bullpen was arguably the best in Boston history, and that was with far less than full seasons from David Price (8 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, 13 strikeouts), Addison Reed (28 strikeouts in 27 innings after joining the Red Sox), and Carson Smith, who looked very good after returning from Tommy John surgery in September. The Astros have quality names like Ken Giles, Joe Musgrove, Chris Devenski, and Will Harris, so they're hardly pushovers. But the Boston bullpen is, for once, a strength.Slight Advantage: Red Sox

The win is the second consecutive Rolex 24 victory for Acura and the ARX-05 prototype, and the first 1-2 finish at Daytona for the manufacturer. For the Meyer Shank team, the win is their second Rolex 24 triumph, and 10 years to the weekend after their first win here in the 2012 50th running of the event.
Ricky Taylor (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing ARX-05) Finished second: \"First of all, what a great day for Acura! HPD does so much work for us and I think it shows in the reliability of these DPi cars. We were up against five Cadillacs with just two Acuras, and managed a 1-2 finish. The reliability was amazing and the performance of the engine and the car was flawless. The team executed beautifully, I just didn't have enough at the end to go and get Helio [Castroneves]. It's a little disappointing, but we'll start working towards Sebring and it's a really good way to start the year. I'm really proud to have my teammates next to me, they all did an amazing job. And thanks to Konica Minolta, Harrison Contracting and everyone that gives us the opportunity to be here and race these cars.
Next The 2022 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship now moves to central Florida for the 70th annual Mobil-1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Saturday, March 19 in Sebring, Fla.
This selection is particularly difficult. Between veteran stars like Hideto Asamura, Tetsuto Yamada, and Shogo Nakamura, 24-year-old Shugo Maki stood above the rest. After a fantastic rookie campaign in 2021, Maki built on his success with a .291/.354/.507 slash line in 2022. For the first two months of the year, Maki looked like one of the best hitters in the league, with an OPS well above 1.000. An early-summer slump brought him back down to earth, but Maki finished the season strong, compiling 36 doubles, 24 home runs, and 87 RBI. He still needs to improve his defense, but Maki is clearly emerging as a true superstar at the keystone.
I feel it's been my best year, once again. Just because I'm not on the podium or I don't have an outstanding drive in terms of overtaking, people don't ever rate it very highly. Simply, just because the car has not been as quick, we've not been able to look as good as a team and as a driver. But I feel like I've done a better job from start to finish.
6: City stage awaitsThe mainly gravel rally actually begins with a stage through the streets of host town Fafe with crews tackling the 1.43-kilometre test from 21h05 on Friday 10 March. Will any driver be able to lower the 1m26.5 sec benchmark set by Erik Cais and Petr Těšínský in 2022
10: Watch a world champion in actionRobert Virves, the winner of the FIA Junior WRC Championship in 2022, is heading to Fafe and hoping to make his Ford Fiesta fly high as he builds his experience at Rally2 level.
12: Linnamäe has podium potentialAfter clocking up three stage wins and running second overall for much of the 2022 Fafe ERC opener, Georg Linnamäe returns with the potential to better the third place he eventually achieved 12 months ago.
